ABOUT ME
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I fell in love with the tidepools, forests, and mountains that surrounded my home. My passion for biology has never gone away!
MY TEACHING
I am privileged to be able to share my love of biology with undergraduates through teaching. I believe my role as an educator is to help students think like a scientist: how to discern useful information and resources, reason quantitatively, think critically, and communicate effectively.
MY RESEARCH
I am particularly interested in understanding the early steps of infection by enveloped viruses. These viruses have adapted specific ways to recognize and gain entry into host cells.
-
How do viruses find the right cell to infect?
-
How do viruses bind to and fuse with their host cells?
-
Which components are necessary for efficient viral infection?
